Go with the wind or stand still?

Nowadays, globalization has formed an overwhelming power  impacting people’s daily life everywhere and every now and then. It gradually influences economy, technology, culture in addition to society.  We cannot deny that globalization really brings benefits, integrate resources and unify the standards, but that does not represent everything is helpful. The article “The Spread of Western Culture Threatens Local Cultures” was written by Wole Akande who showed a negative way that the globalization would replace a lot of traditional and local cultures. Especially the young generation, who are glad to accept new things, will hardly inherit their forefathers’ cultures until the original culture disappear. It’s quite easy to forget our own culture, generation by generation, if people don’t notice the aggression of spread cultural colonization. Moreover, the cultural globalization has become a big threat to the local cultures and the original culture cannot be blotted out.
According to Wole Akande’s article , the cultural invasion has changed many local cultures and people’s thoughts. Those cultural colonizers use religions and their own cultural practices to ooze over people’s inner world. The example in 19th century in Abeokuta  colonized by the British shows that people living there were educated by western culture. After a long time of cultural practices, people  gradually rejected their own culture and history. This phenomenon illustrates the local culture has been completely crumbled.                What should we do when we face this cultural invasion? Do we need to boycott this completely? Should we analyze how globalization undermines original cultures and then find out some solutions? We will never know who we are if we lose traditional cultures because it stands for our identity. Many people don’t understand why the local culture is too precious to pass on to the next generation and why people must protect it. The existence of a nation is relying on its local culture, otherwise this nation will die out by losing the local cultures.
If the cultural colonization challenges the local culture by education, the commercialization of culture is like a poison that can go into people’s life and eat them up. Like the article said: “people around the world are today connected by brand name consumer products as much as by anything else.” Nowadays, no matter where you are or no matter how you communicate with others, the topic about brands may be on food, advertisement and products. That is the fastest way to break ice among people. The commercialization of culture is taking over local culture and industry because those new things have changed people’s viewpoints of value. The further disadvantage is that the traditional creation will be replaced and hardly survive under severe competition of products. Akande mentioned in the article that even the media is occupying a big part of market of the world, like TV shows and movies. In a way, people will fail to appreciate or create their traditional products. A lot of people have changed their minds along with this commercialized wave.
It is difficult for a nation to face either cultural invasion or commercialized colonization. Protecting the local culture is becoming quite tough. People are excited to accept new things from other nations because they think this is a kind of fashion. Well, my friends around me in China like watching Hollywood movies and are keen on international brands. They will follow the fashion after they absorb all the new things. Then, they will bring this tendency of new fashion to their family and so on. Gradually, people will lose their passion on their local fashion and many industries close down because of this. The globalization has an overwhelming influence to erase people’s original culture value. Someone tried to prevent this big impact of globalization, but it’s really hard to explain how negative it is to a nation and how badly it threatens the local culture.
Obviously, the globalization of cultural invasion will threaten more and more nations, especially the young generation. The more new brands appear, the more people will be involved. Accepting new things is good, however, we should correctly evaluate the importance of local culture to let our young generation know about before we allow them to touch the globalized products.
