根据《圣经/创世纪》第2章第2节记载：
  By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
  到第七日，神完成了一直在做的事。所以，在第七日，他停下一切，安息了。 
  ‘安息’的英文用的是rest，即‘休息’。
  迄今，似乎从来没有人问：“上帝为什么要休息？”
  万能的上帝会累吗？绝对不会。那么，他为什么要休息呢？

  不仅如此，根据《圣经/出埃及记》第20章第8-10节记载：
  "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
  记住安息日，守为圣日。
  Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
  平日六天，该做什么就做什么，
  but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
  但第七日是向主你们的神当守的安息日。这一日，你们和儿女、仆婢、牲畜以及外来人口，停下一切手里的活。

  《希伯来书》第4章第10节讲得更清楚： 
   for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.
   因为，进入神安息的人也歇了自己的工，正如神收工一样。

   我们不难得出结论：休息是上帝定的。休息是福气。我们不仅要休息，还要在他里面休息。

   高官富豪有休息吗？

   2500年前，鼎盛的以色列王所罗门哀叹道（《传道书》第4章8节）：
   There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. "For whom am I toiling," he asked, "and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?" This too is meaningless- a miserable business!
   有人鳏寡孤独，无亲无嗣，竟忙个没完，欲壑难填。他说：“我这样劳苦，剥夺自己的享乐，到底是为谁呢？”

  《传道书》第2章21节：
   For a man may do his work with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then he must leave all he owns to someone who has not worked for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune.
   人可以用智慧、知识和技巧做事，然后拱手让给一个不劳而获之人。这也太没意思了。真乃大不幸。

  人不安息，是因为静不下来。
  婚姻不顺是因为想不断地找更好的；
  事业不顺是因为挖空心思，不停钻营；
  家庭不和是因为不能平心静气；
  生意亏本是因为贸然投资。

  上帝说：金山银山都是我的。
  还说：我愿意怜悯谁，就怜悯谁。

  人静不下来，归因于倚重自己的本事和能力。
  我要问你：你连自己的生老病死都把控不了。你究竟有何本事和能力？

  那么，安息的果效是什么呢？

  答案是（《希伯来书》第4章16节）：
  Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
  那么，在我们有需求的时候，让我们满怀信心，来到施恩的宝座前，得到怜悯，寻着恩惠，使我们得到帮助。
