韩越 Both sides of computer application in teaching

Computers are now essential in many areas of life, such as modern banking, retail and information exchange. And there is no exception in education. However, computers are not always dominant in teaching. At a simple level, some subjects may be better taught by using computers, but it is still indispensable to use machines to explain important concepts.
在生活的众多领域中,如现代银行业、零售与信息交换,计算机是必不可少的。教育也不例外。然而,电脑在教育行业并不总是处于主导地位。有些科目在简单层面,用电脑教学较为可取。但用机器解释重要概念,仍悬而未决。
There are some subjects in which a computer can be used successfully to teach. Elementary math, elementary language learning and some others require students to memorize basic facts through repetition. That is well suited to computer learning. Computers can be programmed to provide an endless number of simple questions for students to answer them. Learners get what they want and memory is reinforced.
有些科目采用电化教学取得成功。基础数学、基本语言等要求学生通过重复训练,记住要领。这是计算机教学的优势。可以给电脑编程,提供大量简单问题由学生回答。这样,该学的学到了,记忆力也得以加强。
However, in the learning and practice of more complex ideas, computers are not adequate. Computers may be useful as tools for practicing simple skills. They can not replace modern education, because they cannot monitor a student’s grasp of concepts, nor evaluate a student’s reasoning. With further development, computers, that are made human teachers, will become necessary in education.
然而,在更复杂的学习与实践方面,计算机是不合适的。他们也许只能是简单练习的有用工具,不能取代现代教育,因为电脑无法监控学生的掌握状况,也不能评估辨别能力。随着进一步发展,电脑若真成了教学的大活人,教学将离不了它们。
